Description

This is a new set of 4 standard size (1.940" intake and 1-3/4" exhaust) black nitride valves, 2 intake and 2 exhaust, for Harley big twin shovelhead motors from 1966 through 1984. The exhaust valves are also standard size for panhead motors from 1948 through 1965.  Fits all Harley models that use HD part #s 18082-57A and 18074-66.  This generally includes the models shown on the list below.  Consult your parts manual to confirm correct application. These valves came in boxes of 4 of each part # so your order may include the box for the first part # or the box for the other part # but not both boxes.  The box you receive will have 2 of each part #.  If you have any other questions, just let us know.

Tech note on black nitride valves - Black nitride is a hardening treatment that increases the surface hardness of the valve yet it keeps good ductility beneath the hard nitrided layer, unlike stainless valves which are more brittle throughout. A black nitride surface finish is also smoother than chromed valve stems resulting in less friction between the valve stem and the guide which reduces galling.  It also makes the valve last longer with lead-free fuels and fuels that contain alcohol.  The black nitrided layer is adhered to a valve's base material at a microscopic level, so it can not flake or brake off. The black nitride coating is applied to the whole valve while traditional chrome coating is only applied to the stem.
